Join us for a weekend with a world-class rope & BDSM presenter, -EM-. Based in Memphis, Tennessee and active in the BDSM community since 2010, EM is a sadistic rope and whip enthusiast whose interests lie in pushing his bottoms with strenuous yet beautiful poses. With years of experience learning rope from various artists across North America, his interpretation of Japanese bondage stems from a desire to withdraw submission from the female form and highlight its beauty through suffering and strain. EM's primary interests (rope, whips, photography) stem from his interests in perfecting technique, skill, and accuracy with regard to all forms of S&M play.
Please note that the Saturday advanced intensive is limited to 6 tying couples that meet the prerequisite advanced skill level (non-vetted audit spots are also available). See below for details on how to apply for a spot.

Advanced Intensive (Saturday March 24th)
(Note: Tying will be on bamboo or rattan provided by the venue)
Workshop 1: Agura - Lotus leg tie (2 hours)
Agura/lotus suspension harness construction methods will be the focus of this section. We'll then focus on loading them, and on transitions in partials and/or suspensions. Transition sequences will involve a series developed initially by @Isean, and then further refined by @-EM- and @Isean as a team.
Workshop 2: Rope bondage for canes, whips, and impact play ( 2 hours)
We'll discuss and demonstrate things to take into consideration when you bring impact play into your rope scene. The focus will be on partial & full suspension predicaments. Putting together a series of ties which optimize access, and which also allow the bottom to spend enough time in the air to enjoy a reasonably long impact play scene.
Workshop 3: Gyaku Ebi suspensions: the facedown hogtie. (2 hours)
Nuances that make the facedown Gyaku Ebi a flexible combination of comfortable, instense, beautiful, and painful. Shape and position variations, and ways in which you can transition into it or out of it.
All Levels Intensive: (Sunday March 25th)
(Single-hardpoint uplines will be available on a community/shared basis for those that want to learn and practice suspension techniques which are during the workshop)
Workshop 1: Basic design and structure of the box tie
We'll talk about the reason no one's TK/Gote/box tie looks the same way they all did four years ago. How to spot impending nerve compression issues - and build ties that don't cause it. Proper placement and tension of the wraps in the tie, how to construct your frictions, and how to safely connect suspension lines to it.
Workshop 2: Managaing Suspension Lines.
A look at techniques and safety considerations for using suspension lines in partial and full suspensions. How to tie them fast, and do so with maximum safety. How to bundle excess rope neatly.
Workshop 3: Rope Handling
Nothing can kill an otherwise good scene or turn an otherwise good experience into a bad scene faster than poor line handling and tension. Rope handling is the most fundamental and important skill to develop when learning to tie others. This workshop will explore techniques that will take your rope game up a level or two.
Workshop 4: Futomomos ("frog leg" ties)
Design considerations for the futo: A few guidelines focusing on ways to keep it from being (quite as) painful in suspension, technical considerations to focus upon when tying your partner, and how to create your own futomomo tie on the fly which is structurally sound and doesn't detract from the flow of your scene.
Advanced Intensive Prerequisites:
Riggers: Must be at an advanced level. Riggers should have strong rope handling skills and understanding of tension, the ability to tie a solid, suspension-worthy TK or box tie variation, and have significant experience with suspension techniques, including transition experience. Riggers should be able to execute these techniques in a safe, timely, and effective manner.
Bottoms: Should have some experience with advanced techniques and suspension, and the physical ability to endure an all day workshop that includes significant time in the air, including transition exercises.
-EM- will be selecting six couples for this intensive. Please fill out the vetting form to the left by January 31st, 2018. If you believe -EM- is already aware of your skill level, you may choose to only provide contact information.
A Note on the Vetting Process:
RopeLab's all-volunteer leadership and staff work tirelessly all year-round to bring world-class education opportunities, including our regular monthly workshops, small group workshops, and intensives. Almost all RopeLab events are open to everyone, for example, the intermediate intensive with -EM- on Sunday March 25th, 2018.
For more advanced intensives, there is a need to limit attendance to those who meet the requisite skill level. Some advanced Intensives are pre-vetted and invite-only based on the educational goals and presenter's curriculum set for the event.
-EM- will select participants that are the best match for the workshop based on the following factors:
Does the person possess the minimum skill level required per the prerequisites?
Does the person have the ability to keep up with a fast-paced intensive and not hold back the rest of the participants?
-EM- will create a primary list and alternate list. The alternates will get a spot if one opens up. If you are not selected, try not to be discouraged. We know it doesn’t feel great, but every person making the cut has been in your shoes. Plus, there are other options. First, -EM- will be in Columbus Friday night and will be available for private lessons. Second, -EM- will be teaching a non-vetted intermediate intensive at the Columbus Space the next day (Sunday, March 25th). And of course, you can take advantage of other educational opportunities, such as the many events put on in locally and in the region.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the RopeLab staff.
-EM- is offering private rope instruction while he is in Columbus.
Send him a Fet message to schedule.
